Gustave was wearing this pair of dark, round-lensed sunglasses when he first came into Cassie’s bookshop. They’re called teashades or John Lennon glasses and were made popular by members of the 1960s counterculture. Teashades was also used to describe glasses worn to hide the effects of recreational drugs.

Cassie ends up spending the night inside the castle. Gustave lights a candle for her in the bedroom.
Determined to deliver Gustave’s book, Cassie finally reaches Bitter Castle. The castle that the gypsy woman warned her not to go to. But of course, Cassie didn’t listen.
Cassie is on her way to Gustave’s when she encounters strange gargoyle-like critters. Are they Coopers Creatures like the gypsy woman talked about?
While driving through the Michigan town of Coopersville on her way to deliver Gustave’s book—and ring, Cassie sees this old American Gothic Revival house.
Gustave Veil’s skull ring seems to be causing trouble in Cassie’s life. But for some reason she can’t seem to get rid of it.
In the story Ring: Wearer Beware, mysterious Gustave Veil (Ringman) visits C & N Book Nest and orders the rare book (pamphlet) An Impartial Account of the Trial of Lord Conwallis. Cassie is compelled to deliver it to the intriguing man’s residence. I want to know why Gustave was amused when he requested it.
